Obituary of David P. Battini

GREENVILLE – David P. Battini, 76, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 22, 2018 in Great Falls, Montana, where he was attending a Boy Scout event.

            Born in Astoria, NY on March 2, 1942, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marguerite Corbett Battini.  Dave was a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder.  He returned from college to Greenville, where the family had a summer home, which became Dave’s home for the rest of his life.  He was a teacher for 30 years in the Cairo-Durham High School, and also served as the soccer coach for most of those years.

            Dave was a member of Boy Scouts as a youngster. He became active in Troop 42 when he returned to Greenville, and was still active at the time of his death. He was a co-founder in 1972 of the Greenville Rescue Squad, a member of the Greenville Volunteer Fire Company, member of the Greenville Republican Committee, volunteer with Meals on Wheels, member of the Philadelphia Society, member and past Master of Hiawatha Grange #1480, member of Albany County Pomona Grange, and former member of Catskill Valley Grange.  He attended St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville.

            Dave is survived by his sister, Marcella (Raymond) Watts; nephews, R.J. Watts and Daniel (Bethany) Watts; grandnephews, Karson and Samuel Watts and grandniece, Annalise Watts; many cousins and friends.

Calling hours will be Friday August 3rd from 4 to 7pm at St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville. A Memorial Mass will be offered Saturday August 4th at 11am at St. John the Baptist Church, followed by burial of his ashes in the Greenville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either, the Greenville Boy Scout Troop 42, 4616 State Route 81, Greenville, NY 12083 or to the Greenville Rescue Squad, P.O.
