Obituary of Sanchia M. Thomsen

OAK HILL – Sanchia M. "Sancie" Thomsen, 71, passed away on Friday morning, June 22, 2018 at St. Peter's Hospital after a long illness. Born in Saugerties on November 16, 1946, she was raised in the historic Talmage-Atwater house in Greenville. Sancie was a graduate of Greenville High School, and briefly attended college. She worked as a nurse's aide in the former nursing home in Greenville Center, and then worked for many years as a waitress at Shepard Farms in South Westerlo. However, the true love of her life was the Durham Center Museum, where she ran the library and volunteered for 20 years to keep the museum operating. Sancie received letters from grateful people for her efforts in locating ancestry and family origins. One such letter stated, "Greene County is lucky to have such a resource in Sancie." She also assisted authors in research about their subjects in Greene County history. Sancie loved to ride on the back seat of her husband Doug's full dress Harley. Sancie was Doug's best friend, and he knew she always had his back. Doug is grateful that Sancie is no longer suffering and is in a much better place, and he already misses her terribly. Sancie is survived by her husband of 37 years, Douglas S. "Doug" Thomsen, and is predeceased by her parents, Martin "Ned" Doorly and Georgiana Carelas Doorly, and her grandfather, Peter Carelas.
