Obituary of John W. Clickman

GREENVILLE – John W. Clickman, 92, beloved father, passed away on Saturday evening, January 11, 2014 after a brief illness. Born in Westerlo on Sept. 5, 1921, he was son of the late Jesse and Grace Boomhower Clickman. In his early years, John worked on a farm in Kingston. He came back to Medusa and purchased his own farm in 1942. He continued to farm until 1971, and then did carpentry work, cutting wood and other odd jobs. John would help anyone. He also worked at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, retiring in the mid 1980’s. John was a member of the United Methodist Church of Greenville & Norton Hill, and a charter member of the Medusa Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels and was a daily walker. John was “the Rock” to his daughters, Janice Chase (Clifford Chase III) and Karen Bell-Winans (David Winans); also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his wife, Doris Palmer Clickman; his daughter, Lorraine Vancura; and all 8 of his siblings. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Tuesday at 7 p.m., followed by the Medusa Fire Company service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Building Fund of the Greenville-Norton Hill United Methodist Church, PO Box 599, Greenville, NY 12083 will be appreciated.
