Obituary of Shirley Jean McCafferty

Shirley Jean McCafferty passed peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, New York following a brief illness. She was 69 years old.

Shirley was born on October 8, 1954 in Catskill, New York to the late Frederick and Elizabeth (Lockwood) McCafferty. She was raised in South Westerlo, and graduated from Greenville High School in 1972.

Shirley worked at Chimes Market in Norton Hill, and for New York State until she retired.

She loved country life and lived most of her life on the family farm in South Westerlo. Shirley was an independent woman with a big heart. She loved her family, her friends, and her pets. She enjoyed being in nature, and watching all the animals and birds in her yard.

Shirley loved to decorate her house for Halloween and greet Trick-or- Treaters at the door. She always had a variety of treats and plenty of them.

She will be missed by her family and friends.

 Shirley is survived by her sister Nancy Latham, sister- in- law Gaye McCafferty, her nephew Brant Latham and his wife Amy, her great nephews Kyle, Dylan, and Hayden Latham and Dylan’s wife Lauren.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother William McCafferty, and her brother- in- law Henry Latham.

  Shirley has been cremated privately.  Memorial calling hours will be conducted on Saturday, June 1st from 11 am to 1 pm, at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, New York, followed by the memorial service at 1 pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made directly to Animal Kind, 721 Warren Street, Hudson, NY 12534 will be appreciated.
