Obituary of Rev. Phyllis J. Skidmore

GREENVILLE - Reverend Phyllis J. Kellam Skidmore, 90, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Hudson Park Nursing Home in Albany.

She was born on August 29, 1933 in Catskill to the late Clinton and Rose (Mickel) Kellam and was the last child of seven brothers and sisters, all who predeceased her.

She was a graduate of SUNY Cobleskill, Western Connecticut University, Wesley Seminary, and SUNY Potsdam.  In 1958 she married Andrew Skidmore and together they owned and operated a dairy farm in Pleasant Valley, NY.

Phyllis answered God’s call to ministry in her early 40’s. She served United Methodist Church in Chelsea, Greenville, North Blenheim, Fleischmanns, Halcott Center, Palenville, Quarryville, and Malden. After her retirement she was called to The High Hill Church in West Athens, and served as interim pastor at Westerlo Reformed Church.

Phyllis is survived by a daughter Amy (Mitch) Austin, and a son David A. (Janice) Skidmore, as well as two grandchildren, Joshua R. Austin and Rebecca Austin. She was blessed with a wonderful family including many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will take place at Asbury United Methodist Church at Norton Hill, 5830 State Route 81, Greenville, on Saturday, April 13th, at 1 pm with Reverend Gene Knoth presiding. Refreshments will follow in the Carney Center, located behind the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Capital City Rescue Mission, P.O.
