Obituary of Matthew L. Gerber
Matthew Lawrence Gerber
Greenville – On Monday, January 29, 2024, the “Gerber girls” lost the heart of their family. Matthew was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Maria, and the most enthusiastic fan and cheerleader for his daughters, Rachael, Shaya, and Sarah. His daughters were the center of his world. He was at every match, meet, game, concert, activity, or event supporting them. He learned to downhill ski at the age of 59 so he could enjoy the sport with his girls. He was always up for board games, wiffle ball, ping pong, scarf tag, or any other game his daughters wanted to play.
Matthew was born November 14, 1959, to Anna & Lawrence Gerber. He graduated from Cairo-Durham High School and St. John’s University. After trying several different jobs, Matthew found his place as a NYS Court Officer working throughout NYC and eventually at his favorite post at the NYS Court of Appeals in Albany. After retiring from the Court System, Matthew decided he would answer the call for school bus drivers and worked part-time for Greenville Central School. Matthew was also a part-time Food Service employee at the Academy of the Holy Names in Albany.
Matthew will be greatly missed by his wife, Maria; his three daughters, Rachael, Shaya, and Sarah; his sister Geri Schlobohm; brother and sister-in-law, John & Donna Gerber; brother-in-law Thomas Borgen; sister-in-law, Jane Gerber; mother-in-law, Marie Costa; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Tina & Anthony Germano; many nieces and nephews; and his canine son and best buddy, Pax.
He is predeceased by his parents, Anna & Lawrence; sister, Lorraine Borgen; brother, Richard Gerber; and brother-in-law, Arthur Schlobohm.
Matthew was a very kind, generous man. He was friendly and welcoming, and would talk to anyone, especially about his favorite teams, the NY Mets and NY Jets. His family would appreciate, in lieu of flowers, random acts of kindness in his memory, donations to Shriner’s Hospital in Springfield, MA, or future support of a scholarship being planned in his memory.
