I was fortunate to have Mr. Sutton as my 6th grade teacher in 1976. I'll never forget the bicentennial program he organized--he was in his element. This was also the year he performed in Macbeth. He would sometimes give the class an assignment, and invite me into the "back room" to help him memorize his lines. He taught Macbeth that year, and invited the class to the performance. His classroom antics (and tales of them) were legendary. He will remain a pivotal figure in the education and minds of his many students--a worthy legacy indeed.

Dear Eric and family,
I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing. I extend my heartfelt condolences to you and your family during this sad time.
I can close my eyes right now and be sitting at my desk in his sixth grade classroom at Greenville Elementary School. He had a huge and powerful presence as a teacher and I adored him for it. He nicknamed me "Giggles" and I thought that was the coolest thing ever! I laughed at every joke he told because I didn't want to miss a word he said!! He was a great teacher: energetic, passionate, strict but fair, motivating and most of all....very caring and loving. I witnessed him become furious over misbehavior, cry when a classmate who sat in front of me got critically injured and cheer when we made him proud! I hung on to every word he said like it was "the gospel" because to me it really was. He demanded respect but earned every ounce of it by his actions.
For the last twenty-nine years, I have been a teacher myself, partly because I had superb educators like Mr. Sutton. I truly wish every child could feel what is like to be taught by an individual who is passionate about education. When you experience an individual like Mr. Sutton, it changes the way you look at the world at large....you really are capable of achieving anything because you have developed the inner fortitude to do so.
Mr. Sutton will be missed by many....the best way I can honor him is to inspire my students the way he inspired me.
Love to All, Alexandra Lord and the Lord family

So sorry to hear of Mr. Sutton's passing. He was my sixth grade teacher at Greenville Central. He was a wonderful teacher and expected a lot of us. I vividly remember him reading "Tom Sawyer" aloud to us. He would read for a 1/2 hour or so, and it was the highlight of the day. He read each characters lines in a different voice, and brought them to life right in the classroom. I've thought of him fondly and often over the years.

Truly a life well lived with both his immediate family and all those who were in his presence. Always a smile to greet you and bid you a good day. He has left his mark on the lives of all those who were fortunate enough to have him as a teacher, both in the classroom and in his outside activities. May his memory bring joy to your heart and mind. Well done, thy good and faithful servant, well done

Never has a teacher made such an impression on me. I had Mr. Sutton in 6th grade at GCS in 1974. I can remember some days clear as a bell. Once going into the "back room" beacuse of a failing grade on a test. Never happened again i can tell you! A student thereafter! And many nice fall and spring days when he would take the class outside under the trees and read to us with such animation! It was magical...his words would bring me right into the story. I can easily say he was one of the best teachers to ever grace the halls of GCS. God bless and peace...

Condolences to Red’s family. Not only was he a good friend of our family, he was an awesome teacher for my brother at GHS. He made a difference and gave my brother purpose and confidence he needed as a young student. Laughter filled our house whenever he visited my parents. He touched many lives, showed he cared and will be missed. Healing prayers for the family.

My sincere condolences to Bruni and family. Red was definitely an interesting person and an extraordinary friend of my family. He looked out for my brother Jody after my brother Tom passed. He always was quick with a joke or something dramatic.
Whenever I ran into Red I would ask how the family was and he never missed an opportunity to brag about his kids and grandkids.
My older kids remember seeing him in the park in Albany in Raggedy Ann's kitchen. He surely was a memorable character..
My thoughts are with you all. God Bless.

Mr. Sutton was my Third Grade teacher at Rensselaerville. He was one of my all time favorite teachers. At that time, Trolls were very popular, and being so fond of Mr. Sutton, I named him Leonard. Unfortunately, I accidently flushed him down the toilet in the girls room. I came running into the classroom crying hysterically. Mr. Sutton tried to calm me down to find out what happened. All I could do was wail, "I flushed Leonard down the toilet!" Can you imagine what he was thinking? So, I think of him fondly and will never forget him.
My sincere condolences to his wife and family. Godspeed Mr. Sutton
