Obituary of Marlene A. Boomhower
WESTERLO - Marlene A. Boomhower, 72, passed away on Friday evening, March 23, 2012 with her family by her side. Born in Albany, she was daughter of the late Leo and Doris Filkins LeBuis. Marlene was an active member of the Westerlo Reformed Church, serving as Sunday school teacher and elder; and church pianist and organist for over 45 years. While raising her children, she worked as a beautician and piano teacher in her home. She also was employed as an account clerk at Owens Corning for many years. A typical busy farmer's wife, she also managed her husband's trucking business, while being very involved with her children's and grandchildren's sports and activities. Marlene loved volunteering for 14 years at Berne-Knox-Westerlo School in the 1000 Book Club reading program. An avid quilter, an excerpt from her quilt journal reads, "I started serious quilting when I was 50 years old. I had always thought, 'Someday I would like to make a quilt.' And that year, I made up my mind that unless I started, that 'someday' may never come." Since then she has made many quilts for family and friends.
Marlene was the loving wife of 54 years of Dennis Boomhower, and the devoted mother of Bonnie and Dave Ross, Judy and Donnie Tambasco, Mark Boomhower and friend Julie, Diane and Bob Carl. She cherished her grandchildren, Heath Boomhower, Jacob Tambasco, Daniel and Heather Carl, Joey and Ian Ross. She is also survived by her aunt, Margaret Filkins; her siblings, Robert and Roberta LeBuis, Donald and Donna LeBuis, Charis and Dennis Cummings, Dennis and Debbie LeBuis; her brothers-in-law, Pete Bassler and Merritt Chamberlain; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Marlene was predeceased by her sisters, Janice Bassler and Diane Chamberlain; parents-in-law, Edward and Helen Boomhower.
