I have just learned of your mother's death through an obituary in an older Catskill newspaper which a friend passed on to me.
My sincere condolences to all family members. Helda was a quiet neighbor; I'm sorry I did not know her better. My thoughts and prayers are with her and you at this time.

Our mother passed away so suddenly, its hard to believe she is gone. We had such high hopes that she would recover being the tough German that she was!! Hilda was going to fly to California for a visit with her great grand boys, instead she had a inter-cranial hemorrage, after being in nuro-ICU for 3-4 wks. she was transferred to an accute rehab facility, where she fell out of bed and passed away the following nite. George is the BIG concern now that Mom is gone, he would love to hear from anyone (518) 943-4806. Thank you for your prayers & love for Hilda, I know she would appreciate them.

My best friend in the world, Brenda, is Hilda's grandaughter. My family and I had the pleasure of spending time with Hilda in NY a few summers ago. She was a wonderful woman and she had a beautiful smile. I know she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren so much. Our condolences to her family and friends.
Sincerely,
The Gunn Family

She was my Aunt. My dad's sister. My memorys, go way back to the 1960's, when my dad drove to the DeWitt Farm. Those are the first memories of my Aunt Hilda. They are so special to me, I am getting a knott in my throat - just thinking about this time. My Aunt was so unique and I felt like she could carry me back to "days gone by" from the intriqing Hamlet/small town". The last few years I got to spend more time with her, but not enough time - I hope she and my dad "got to say hello again"...

Thank you to all of you for writing such loving and kind words about my Grandma. I haven't had the strength to write anything for a few days and I finally feel ready to do so now.
When I look back at the pictures and think back on all the fun times we have had together it really brings such a warmth of love into my heart. Seeing her face and smile and getting a hug and kiss from her always made my day. Her strong personality and the drive she had to be able to do anything, and I mean anything, that was put before her became a challenge to her that she was always sure to win. She was the strongest most capable woman, along with my Mom of course, that I have EVER met. Nothing was too hard for her to do. She would tell me "Oh come on Brenda you can do that". No matter what it was. Like are you kidding me, you can do anything that you put your mind to. She was also such a strong woman physically. The way she would toss a bale of hay from her farming days like it was a pillow... to wheeling that wheel barrow around full of soil in her yard at 80+ years old always amazed me. I want to follow in her foot steps and always be capable to accomlplish anything that is put before me. She was, for sure, a role model for me and I was always proud of that. I was proud to be her granddaughter and still am.
My God bless you Grandma and I know that I will see you again. I gods name... Amen.

I am Hilda's neice. The youngest of her Brother Donald's children. Oak Hill and the farm. That was one of the best places that a child could have experienced. From swimming in the creek to swinging on the HUGE swings off the back of the house. I have so many memories of Hilda, Jack, George, "Big" Elizabeth and Buffy their dog. I remember standing in the kitchen while Hilda and my Mom - Angie prepared a meal, looking up at the endless cabinets that went all the way to the ceiling with glass panes in the front of them, so that you could see all the beautiful dishes inside. I usually got sent back out to play until the meal was ready. I agree with Brenda that she was one of the strongest woman that I know too! She wouldn't think of giving in to any thought of "I can't", it was always I am gonna...Aunt Hilda...you indeed left a mark on my heart..I will miss you!

I don't know where to begin there where so many memories especilly at the Dewitt Farm in Oak Hill. I remember coming up to the farm from NJ and pulling in the driveway and Hilda would greet us with her wonderful smile and that twinkle in her eye. I can picture her carring the milk cans out of the milk house and also her playing the piano after dinner one of my favorite songs and I believe hers also was Red Sails in the Sunset I still think of her whenever I hear it. Hilda may you rest in peace and thank you for all the wonderful memories you gave us on our vacation to Oak Hill.

I see that same spark for life and adventure in you dear Liz,that Hida had.
