Obituary of Frank J. Mistler

Frank J. Mistler (79) of South Westerlo, NY passed away at his home on Jan. 31, 2010 after a long illness. He was born on Nov. 8, 1930 in the Bronx, son of the late John V. & Marie (Bittlingmaier) Mistler, both German immigrants. Raised in the Bronx he moved to "John's Farm" in South Westerlo with his parents and sister in 1944. After graduating from G.C.S. in 1949 and SUNY Canton (a basketball player) in 1951, Frank joined the US Army in 1951 during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in 1953 as a Sergeant. After active duty, Frank worked for General Electric in Syracuse, NY where he met his wife, Margaret Florence Wilcox., who was a nursing student at Crouse Irving Hospital. They married May 4, 1955 and settled in South Westerlo where they raised six children. Frank was a gas mechanic and foreman for Niagara Mohawk from 1959 to 1990. Through the years Frank also drove school bus for G.C.S., helped run "John's Farm" with dairy cows and haymaking and worked nights at Bryant's Supermarket. Frank was a devoted husband to Margaret for 46 years until her death in 2002. Frank enjoyed his retirement years attending countless sporting and musical events of his grandchildren. He always grew his own vegetable garden. He loved the Yankees and was thrilled to be able to get to their new stadium last summer. His favorite vacation spot was Cape Cod. The Niagara Mohawk monthly retirement luncheons brought much joy to his retirement years. Frank was a caring, loving dad and a very special Poppy. He will be dearly missed. Frank is the brother of Sylvia (Jerome) Fettinger of New Hyde Park, NY, He is the father of Theresa (Roger) Barrowman of Glenmont, John Mistler of South Westerlo, Frances (Alain) Bouillon of Greenville, Mary (Nick Ferguson) Mistler of Slingerlands, Wayne Mistler of South Westerlo and Steven (Tracy) Mistler of South Westerlo and the grandfather of Benjamin, Robert, Bethany and William Barrowman, Nicole and Danielle Mistler, Joshua, Gloria, Jessica and Stephanie Bouillon, Connie, Scott and Monica Mistler-Ferguson, Andrew Ferguson, Julia, Lucas, Sierra, Angela and the late Daniel Mistler. Funeral service will be Thurs Feb. 4, 10:30 am from the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, NY 12083 with a Mass of Christian Burial 11 am a St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wed. 4 to 8 pm. The Greenville American Legion Post # 291 will conduct a service on Wed. 7:30 pm. Interment will be in the Greenville Cemetery.
