Obituary of Lawrence R. Swartz, Jr.

Greenville - Lawrence P. Swartz, Jr. (91) of Greenville, NY formerly of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away at the Stratton DVA Medical Center in Albany, NY with his family by his side on July 9, 2011. He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on May 9, 1920 son of the late Lawrence & Dorothy (Jensen) Swartz, Sr. Larry served his country during world War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Navigator & Bombardier in the Southwest Pacific area. He retired after working at Peelor Motor service in Poughkeepsie. Larry and his late wife Rita moved to the Greenville are in the late 1980's. She predeceased him in 2002. He enjoyed skiing, gardening and was an avid "Yankee Fan" and enjoyed camping and traveling with his late wife. In his last years he enjoyed his Greenville friends and enjoying his view of the Catskill Mts with his long time canine companion "Katie". He will be remembered by his family & friends as a man of integrity and for his independence. Larry was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years Rita (Benkert) Swartz and a sister Elsie Booth. Surviving is a son Donald Swartz (Mindy) of Red Hook, NY, three daughters, Carol Petersen of New Milford, CT, Nancy Scheyhing (Fred) of Danbury, CT. and Donna Gerard (Jack) of Cooperstown, NY also 12 grandchildren & 12 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Wed. July 13 at the Greenville-Norton Hill U.M. Church, SR81, Norton Hill, NY. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Lagrangeville Rural Cemetery at the families convenience.
