Obituary of Elsie S. Allan

DURHAM - Elsie S. Allan, 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at her home after a brief illness. Born in Cornwallville on May 28, 1936, she was daughter of the late Erik and Alice Beaton Sutton. Elsie graduated from Durham Elementary School, Cairo High School, and received her Bachelor's in Science from Oneonta State Teachers College. She taught first grade for 30 years in Durham Elementary School. Elsie was the Chairperson of the Durham Republican Committee and a member of the Durham Republican Club. She was last year's winner of the "Republican of the Year". Elsie was a member of the Durham NY Chamber of Commerce, the Red Hat Society, and a life member of the Oak Hill-Durham Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Durham Agricultural Committee and the Cornell Cooperative Extension Committee. Elsie enjoyed her work with Grandmas for the Troops. Elsie is survived by her husband, James Allan; children, Erik Allan, Leslie (James) Kudlack, David Allan and Michael (Donna) Allan; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Allan; grandchildren, Erika Allan, Samuel, Grace and James Kudlack, Jessica Dawes, Ruth Andrews, Margaret Good, Murphy, Alice and Hannah Allan, Marie-Grace and Thomas Allan; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Thomas E. (Linda) Sutton, Emilie (Gerard) Sharkey and Elizabeth (Al) Hendricks; aunt, Leslie Sutton; nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Elsie was predeceased by her son, Matthew Allan; grandson, Micah Allan; and sister, Edith Baumann. Calling hours will be Wednesday March 30 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville. Burial will be later in the spring at the convenience of the family in the Allan Family Cemetery on the family farm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Durham Center Museum & Research Library, P. O.
