Such a loss to the community. What great memories I have of spending time at "the farm" and talking to Elsie and the women over coffee and those suspicious cookies Alice would put in front of me. I think they were called "8 day cookies"...I remember Elsie telling, "don't ask". Thoughts and prayers are with you all. God speed!

Jim and family, Please accept my condolences on the loss of your beloved Elsie. She welcomed me, a new teacher, to Durham Elementary in 1973 and has been a very special person to me ever since. Her smile always made me feel so special. I have fond memories of parties at your home and being welcomed for dinner on parent-teacher conference nights. I still make Elsie's "garbage salad and think of her fondly. You are in my prayers. Jeannine

My first teaching job was at Durham Elementary School and Elsie was one of the first teachers I met my first year of teaching at Durham. That was in 1972.I remember thinking how much fun it would be to have her as a teacher; she had the knack for knowing how to reach every child. What a warm and delightful woman; she will be missed by all, I am sure. My sympathy to Jim and the entire family.

Dear David and the Allan family, I am so sorry for your loss. Something pulled and tugged at me the last few weeks until finally I went in the basement and pulled out the old pictures of my visits with David to your home and farm, which was my home away from home. I then frantically dug on the internet and discovered this sad news. Thanks to Elsie and Jim and their son David, I have many fond memories of not just your beautiful home, but of your beautiful mother, she always had that smile on her face, greeting me with a warm embrace whenever I came to visit. It may have been 20 years ago since I visited, but I still remember having lively conversations with Elsie about the world and debating many different topics. She will be missed. God bless all of the family and may she rest in peace.
