Obituary of Jonas A. Bogardus

Jonas A. Bogardus Jonas A. Bogardus, 74 years, of Durham, NY passed away on Dec. 20, 2010 in St. Peter's Hospice Inn, in Albany, NY. He was born in Coxsackie, NY on Jun. 5, 1936, son of the late Wilbur and Esther (Velie) Bogardus, Sr.. Jonas was in charge of the maintenance for Pleasant View Lodge until his retirement. He started working ther when he was 14 years old. He was a Life Member of the Oak Hill-Durham Vol. Fire Co. and a 50 year Member of the Greene Co. Vol. Fire Assn.. Jonas was fondly known as the "Mayor" of the Village of Durham. He loved doing picture puzzles and watching the wild birds, especially cardinals. Surviving is his wife, of 52 years, Karolyn (Vincent) Bogardus, his three sons, Brian Bogardus (Jacqueline), David Bogardus (Marilyn) and Todd Bogardus (Henny), his grandchildren, Joshua, Emma, John, Michael, Janie and Benjamin Bogardus, a brother, Wilbur Bogardus, Jr. (Joan), two sisters-in-law, Shirley Winnie and Kathryn Caswell, his devoted godchild, Irene Kiley and several nieces and nephews. As to his wishes he was cremated and there will be a Memorial Service at the Durham-Oak Hill UM Church in Durham, NY at 11AM on Wed. Dec. 29, 2010.
