Obituary of Bruce D. DeGeyter

OAK HILL – Bruce D. DeGeyter, 70, passed away on Monday July 8, 2019 at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born on February 3, 1949 in Paterson, NJ to the late Victor and Barbara Provan DeGeyter. He was raised in West Milford, NJ and the day that he graduated high school, his family moved to Oak Hill, where he's resided since. On October 12, 1975, he married Sheila Bullivant and they spent 43 happily married years together. Bruce had numerous job titles, including surveyor, real estate agent, milk delivery man, farmer, furniture maker, carpenter, logger, and finally, excavator. He was a prominent member of the Durham Oak Hill United Methodist Church, having served as chairman of the trustees, a member of the adult choir, and as the head of the youth group for many years. He also volunteered as a soccer coach for all three of his children. Bruce was a hard working, kind hearted, Christian man, and helped many members of the community. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved boating, fishing, hunting, camping, and just being in the woods. Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila; his children, Nathaniel (Heather), Alison (Brian) Thela, and James DeGeyter; his grandchildren, Bryan and Jarrod DeGeyter and Elizabeth and Brandon Thela; his brothers, Jeffrey (Elaine) and Terrance (Pamela) DeGeyter; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday July 11th from 4 to 8pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. A funeral service will be held on Friday July 12th at 11am at the Durham Oak Hill United Methodist Church, Susquehanna Turnpike, Durham, followed by burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
