Obituary of Roberta R. Briody

GREENVILLE – Roberta R. Briody, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday April 17, 2019 surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on July 12, 1932 in San Diego to the late James and Roberta Hubbard Gullett. With her father in the Navy, she traveled around the country while she was growing up. She was very musically talented, having played the violin, and was playing the French horn in the Honolulu Symphony when she met her husband, the late James Briody. After they were married, they moved to NYC where they raised their family. They then moved to Pearl River, where they resided for 40 years, until James' death in June of 2013. She moved to Westerlo in 2013 and then finally to Greenville in 2017. Roberta had been the president of the Iota Delta chapter of the Sigma Alpha Iota, a national professional women's music fraternity. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening, was a talented seamstress, and had a great love for all animals. In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband of 57 years, she was also predeceased by her daughter, Margaret, and her brother, Charles Hubbard Gullett. Roberta is survived by her children, John (Frances) Briody, Kathleen (Laurence) Ridings, and Elizabeth (Carl) Amdor; her grandchildren, Michelle, Sean, Amanda, Jacqueline, and James; and many nieces and nephews. A calling hour will be held on Friday April 19th from 9:30 to 10:30am at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, NY 12083, followed by a funeral service at 10:30am. She will then be buried in Ascension Cemetery, 650 Saddle River Rd, Airmont, NY 10952 at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N.
