I just wanted to say how blessed and grateful I am for this beautiful woman in my life. She was my 5th grade teacher in Greenville Central School (1979-1980) and I was one of her class pets, and she named me pip squeak... I had severe anxiety as a child and she made me feel safe & loved and my life was forever changed by her love and kindness for me. I send my sincere condolences and send prayers to your family during this difficult time. May her beautiful spirit fly free, I will love & miss her all my life, love Lisa Margiasso Brock

In memory of my dear friend Barbara from Maureen, Mike and Kelly. You left a big hole in all our lives. I am so happy that we got to spend time with you on this last trip. You were doing what you loved to do, visiting Florida with Tom by your side. Thanks for being there when I needed you for all these years. Love, Maureen

In September of 1978, I was not yet 23 years old; about to start my very first year of teaching. Barbara was one of the first fellow teachers I met at Greenville Elementary. On the day before students would arrive, my wife had come to school with me to help me prepare. All classroom furniture was in the hallway. So we were moving tables and chairs into my room and attempting to arrange things for efficient teaching.
There came the sound of deliberate footsteps approaching my door. And into the room came a stern presence. “That’s my table,” she commanded stabbing a finger toward the front of my room. She had introduced herself with strength, not sure who she might be dealing with. When she realized I was stunned and quaking in my boots, she downshifted a bit.
Over the next years Barbara Orsini became one of my best teacher friends. When she inherited the Nature’s Classroom program, she recruited me; first as a chaperone for the weeklong trip, and then to help her run it. Watching her with students I learned the power of humor in a classroom. She was eminently human with her students. This created great trust and respect. Her fun-loving humor, and profound acceptance of all her students made all of them love her.
After nearly 20 years, I moved to the newly created Greenville Middle School. And so, we drifted apart. Since retiring, we’ve seen each other less. And now, I’m sad to say goodbye to a dear friend and mentor.
As I recall, she let me keep that table.

Dear Tom and sons,
I am so sorry for the loss of Barbara, your spouse and mother. She left us too soon, but at least her suffering is now over and she is with God in Heaven. I am also very sorry I cannot be present for the services, but glad Sharon will be there for us both. My hip bursitis condition would make traveling at this time difficult and I trust you understand. I am glad you are surrounded by family at this very sad time. May Barbara rest in peace.
With Sincere Sympathy,
Joe Carfora

One of the best teachers I have ever had. You made such an impact on me as a new student to a very new area and made me feel so comfortable. I wound up very sick and you came to visit me in the hospital I will never ever forget you and you will always be in my heart. What a great loss. I’m happy to have known you. My deepest sympathy to her family and all the many people whose lives you have touched.

This is such sad news. She was my 5th grade teacher and she made learning fun. Her bright bubbly vibrant personality made students want to learn. She always had such wise words to say. She will definitely be missed. My thoughts and prayers for the entire family. So sorry for your loss.

In elementary school she was patient with me and made me feel important at a time when most of the other teachers were not very nice.
She was tough but super sweet and made a difference.

This is definitely hard - you gave so much to so many. For me, you built my confidence to learn and feel good about myself. You made such a big difference in my success at school and I always always always loved you for that. I am so sad that you aren’t here for me to say that to in person. I remain peaceful knowing you are in heaven and can see and hear all the love and appreciation so many are expressing. Thank you so much for all you did for me in fifth grade- it changed my life as a learner. I love you and will miss you.

There are not enough words to describe the beautiful soul , spirit, and essence of Barbara. Kind, genuine, sincere, silly, fun, special, sarcastic, critical, talented, dedicated, enthusiastic , loving, giving, and forever devoted to friends and family. She will be sorely missed by all! Another angel joins the ranks! With much love and sorrow, Joanne Lounsbury

Mrs.Orsini, (Rueckheim) was my 5th grade teacher and I was so privileged to be in her class. She was always looking out for all of her students and always there to teach us and mold us to into adults with great knowledge. She was always so caring looking out for us daily and when we were not having a good day she would be there to cheer us and help us. I always considered her as one of my biggest mentors in my life. She was like family to me and I loved her as such. I WILL MISS YOU 24/7 Mrs. Rueckheim. REST IN PEACE.

My heart hurts...
God has been busy these past months it seems.
This wonderful woman, my teacher first, my friend thereafter. I was so elated to have Mrs. O come out to visit my shoppe last year and be able to receive such a big hug, see her shining smile and catch up with her on all of life’s conversations.
She was my brother’s ‘first love’, so much so that the joke was he failed 5th grade just to take her class again. I’m sure Michael will be glad to see her....
Always gracious, ever so kind and when needed, a stern figure when teaching us back in the day.
My heart goes out to Mr. Orsini, their boys ( her beloved furry grandpups too) and all of their family, friends and so many of us who knew and loved her in the Greenville School District.
Forever will I smile at each memory of this woman I fondly called Mrs. O.
Sincere thoughts and condolences,
Marie, student ‘78 ~ friend for life.
