Obituary of Selma Labuda

Selma "Sally" Labuda of Grapeville, NY passed away peacefully on Monday November 5, 2018 at The Pines in Catskill with family at her side. She was 91 yrs old, born on August 10, 1927 in a stone farm house in Alcove. She was raised by her parents, George and Edna Richardson on that farm as the youngest of 9 children. Her fondest memory was sitting in the sunny window seat in her home reading. She grew up in Alcove and Ravena and graduated from Ravena High School. In 1946 she married the love of her life, Walter Labuda Sr., and raised her family in Grapeville. Selma worked at the Grapeville Country Store owned by her family and was a clerk at the U S Post Office in Climax for many years. She was "Grandma" to all children, whether or not they were family. Lovingly known as "Grandma Buda", the neighborhood children knew they could come to her house for snacks and ice cream. She loved her NY Yankees as well as playing bingo and getting a winning scratch ticket. She was known to be very lucky! She is survived by her sons, Walter Jr. (Cecile McMillan) of Grapeville, Joseph of Tucson , AZ, and Matthew (Donna) of Grapeville; and her daughter, Marilyn Hull of Harwich, MA. She has many grandchildren great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild, all of whom she loved dearly. She is predeceased by her husband, Walter Sr., who passed in 2000. She is also predeceased by her 8 siblings. The family would like to thank the staff at The Pines in Catskill who provided Selma with such loving care in the last two months of her life. It was very much appreciated. Calling hours will be Thursday November 8th from 4 to 7pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral service will be Friday at 10am at the funeral home with burial to follow at the Greenville Cemetery.
