Obituary of Edith N. MacIntosh
Westerlo - Edith (Burroughs) MacIntosh (87) of Westerlo, NY passed away peacefully on Sat. Nov. 6, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Lutheran HC Center in Delmar, NY. She was born in Colonie, NY on September 10, 1923 to the late Nellie (Witbeck) & Egbert Burroughs. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Edith worked for the State of New York for 26 years in the Dept. of Tax and Finance, and cared for her mother until she married Kenneth M. MacIntosh in 1969, who passed away in 1980.
She was the sister of the late Harold, Henry, Sam, Alton and Raymond Burroughs, Ann Porter & Hazel Dittmar.
Edith loved life and loved helping others. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, and devoted her life to serving the Lord. She was a Sunday School Teacher at Our Saviors Lutheran church for over 28 years. She enjoyed spending time traveling with her husband, before they built their home in Westerlo, NY. After her husband died, she became very active at the First Baptist Church of Westerlo. She taught Sunday School again for another 20 plus years. Edith was in several different Bible Studies and also had one on one Bible studies in her home. She spent many hours on the phone with a prayer chain and sent out get well cards to those in need at her church. She volunteered at the Westerlo Senior Services Center on Monday's serving lunches and loved the others who volunteered and came in to have lunch.
She never got her driver's license, but was blessed with special neighbors, friends and relatives that would take her to church, shopping, on day rips, out to lunch, or to doctor's appointments. Edith was loved by so many at the First Baptist Church of Westerlo, they surprised her with a 80th Birthday party for her with all her friends and family. She felt truly blessed by having so many caring and loving friends over her many years.
Edith is survived by her very dearest and loving friend, for over 24 years, Donald Britton; and her devoted and care giving niece and God Daughter, Linda (Burroughs) Healy (who was like a daughter to her). She is also survived by several other nieces, nephews and great and great-great nieces & nephews and also many very special friends that will miss her dearly.
The family would like to pay a special tribute and thank you to Alfred (Al) and Sandy Crewell (neighbors) for all their support over the years, which included mowing the lawn, snow removal, driving her back and forth to visit her late husband in the hospital and for all the many other things they did for her over the years that Edie lived alone in her home.
Her family would also like to thank all the special nurses, CNA's and staff at the Good Samaritan Lutheran HC Center who cared for Edith during her eight months at Good Sam's and also for the support Edith received at the end of her life with the Community Hospice of Albany County.
Funeral service will be Thurs. Nov. 11, 1pm at the First Baptist Church of Westerlo, 618 SR143, Westerlo, NY. Friends may call at the church on Thurs. from noon to 1pm prior to the service. Interment will be Fri. 11am in the Memory Garden Cemetery, Albany, NY.
