Obituary of Lawrence J. Byrne, Jr.

PRATTSVILLE – Lawrence J. Byrne, Jr., 64, passed away on Friday August 3, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 16, 1953 in Catskill to the late Lawrence J. and Agnes Coleman Byrne. He spent his childhood in East Durham and after high school, went on to receive an Associates Degree. He worked as a Corrections Officer for the Dept. of Corrections in Coxsackie, where he worked faithfully for nearly 40 years before retiring last year. He never took his job home with him. Larry had an open door policy for his children and grandchildren for a meal, a place to stay, and for advice. He enjoyed subjects such as history, nature, old cars and motorcycles. He was an avid golfer. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, and parishioner of Our Lady of Knock Shrine Church in East Durham, doing service when called on. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Eileen, Kathleen, John, and Dennis. Larry is survived by his wife, Diane Kudlack Byrne; his children, Lawrence Byrne, and Michael, Michelle, Wendy and Nathan Holdridge; his grandchildren, Charlie Post, Gabbie, Brooke, Tyler, Logan, Nick, and Natalie Holdridge, Dallas and Avaylnn Araneda, and Samuel Hotaling; his great-grandchild, Julian Borfitz; his brothers, Michael "Mickey", Timothy, and Christopher Byrne; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Saturday August 18th from 11am to 1pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, followed by a memorial service at 1pm. His ashes will then be buried in the Greenville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Knock Shrine c/o Parish Office, 35 Church St., Cairo, NY 12413.
