Obituary of Barbara A. Freedell

WESTERLO – Barbara A. Freedell, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 22, 2018 surrounded by her beloved family. She was born on September 25, 1935 in Manhattan to the late Preston A. and Maria J. Wouk Smith. Barbara was a waitress at Shepard’s Farm Resort in South Westerlo for 33 years. She was a basketball player for the Mentone Girls Basketball team. Barbara was an avid bowler, having been a member of various bowling leagues both at the national and state level and was a member of the 600 Club. She also enjoyed bingo, going to casinos, and traveling.

            Barbara is survived by her daughters, Jean Marie Hedges, Joyce Freedell Jones (Denny), and Janice Mahoney (Michael); her grandchildren, Tyler, Juliann, Lindsay, Jerimy, Stephanie, and Brandon; her four great-grandchildren; her siblings, Marilyn Koerner and James Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday July 25th from 4 to 8pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. A funeral service will be held on Thursday July 26th at 11am at the funeral home, followed by burial in Westerlo Central Cemetery. The family would like to sincerely thank hospice for all their care and compassion that they gave to mom and the family.
