Obituary of Maria E. Mathisen

GREENVILLE - Maria Ellen (Paraschos) Mathisen, 68, passed away Wednesday July 11, 2018 at Barnwell Nursing Home in Valatie. She was born on November 5, 1949 in Patchogue, NY to the late Elias "Lou" and Helen Doukas Paraschos. She was raised in Patchogue and then came to live in Greenville. She graduated from Ithaca College in 1970. Maria was a homemaker, as well as worked various teaching jobs including substitute teacher, tutoring and working with disabled children. She was a past member of Milk for Life and the Greenville Rescue Squad. Maria enjoyed crafts, such as sewing, and knitting/crocheting. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her granddaughter, Alisha Lilly Paquette Mathisen. Maria is survived by her children, Cathleen (Dave) Burns, Nicole Mathisen, Christina (Marc) Christian, and Matthew Mathisen (Ashley Paquette); her seven grandchildren; her siblings, Demetria Paraschos, Larry Paraschos and Vickie Pond; and her Uncle Andy "Butch" Paraschos.
