Obituary of Elizabeth M. Becker

FREEHOLD – Elizabeth M. "Betty" Becker, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday April 23, 2018 at The Pines in Catskill. She was born on March 29, 1929 in Catskill to the later Walter F. and Ethel M. Birkett. She was a lifelong resident of Freehold, having graduated from Greenville Central School. After graduation, Betty worked as a secretary, first for Pioneer Insurance for ten years, and then at Greenville Central School until her retirement in 1984. Betty was a member of the Republican Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Freehold Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and the Clematis Garden Club. She volunteered as an EMT for the Greenville Rescue Squad and volunteered during elections to help at the polls, and was a Notary Public. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Greenville, and then attended Kiskatom Reformed Church in later years. Betty organized her class reunions and was the record keeper for the alumni. She loved country line dancing, flower gardening and Story's Nursery, and enjoyed traveling, her cat, cooking, entertaining, and spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis F. Becker, on January 14, 2015. Betty is survived by her son, Walter F. Becker and his wife, Tara; her grandchildren, Sean and Elizabeth "Eilis" Becker; former daughter-in-law, Eileen Becker; her nephew, Fred Smith; her niece, Bonnie O'Brien; and her great nephew and niece, Keith and Jennifer Smith. Calling hours will be held on Saturday May 12, 2018 from 9am to 11am at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, followed by a memorial service at 11am. Betty's ashes will then be interred in the Freehold Cemetery with her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Freehold Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, P.O.
