Obituary of Joan Marie Powers

GREENVILLE – Joan M. Powers, 75, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday January 7, 2018. She was born in Queens on June 20, 1942 and was a graduate of St. John's University. She worked for the telephone company and then as a bookstore manager in Yonkers before moving to Greenville in 1986 with her husband and daughter. She worked for many years as a secretary for Baumann's Contractors, Inc. in Greenville. Joan was a member of the Rosary Altar Society at St. John the Baptist Church. She enjoyed vacationing in Myrtle Beach and gardening. She is predeceased by her parents; her one brother; and her husband, Thomas J. Powers on August 27, 2013. Joan is survived by her daughter, Colleen Powers; her two brothers; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday January 11, 2018 from 4 to 7pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday January 12th at 11am at St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville, followed by burial in Greenville Cemetery.
