The epitomy of a Trooper. I remember when I went to the Academy in 79, how First Sergeant La Plante took care of that building as if it was his own. A man who took pride in his performance as a the First Sergeant. I will always remember how he carried the uniform, the respect he had for the history of the State Police.
Rest in peace First,
May the Troopers be true to your legacy

When I saw the picture in the obituaries, I immediately recognized an old friend. Vic and I were in boot camp in Bainbridge, MD in 1955. I got out the class book for Company 463 and it brought back great memories of those times. Vic’s looks had changed very little from when I first met him more than 60 years ago. He was a good person then and from his obituary it appears that he had a full and meaningful life. I am sorry for your loss and grateful that I knew him when we were young.
Sincerely,
Bill Horan

I worked with Vic in Troop G and the Academy. He helped all of us in more ways than will ever be known. He loved his family, was extremely loyal to the State Police and always maintained his sense of humor. He epitomized what so many of us strive for - a Godly man, a good friend and always a gentleman, May he now stand "at ease" and rest in peace.

Vic was the first Sgt. at the Academy when I worked there for three years.
While I had been on the job longer and was older that he was, I admired him from day one for the manner in which he carried out his responsibilities. He worked harder and longer than anyone else (in my opinion. He was totally loyal the Division and to all who worked at the academy. He was an exceptional man and I will miss him. Working there with him, enjoying the warmth of his friendship, and being inspired by his dedication, was one of the great experiences of my career. Gail and Family:
My sincerest condolences go out to all of you on Vic's passing.
I had the pleasure of working with Vic when I was a Counselor at the NYSP Academy during the mid-70's and he was my F/Sgt. Vic had the unique ability to tactfully cut through red tape resulting in many, many, "THANK YOU's" from not only his Counselors, the Secretarial pool, but also from the personnel at Bldg 22. Vic was highly respected for his Honorable Naval and Division service.
How fitting it is on this Veterans Day to remember Vic's Naval service aboard the USS Buck in the Pacific on behalf of a grateful Nation that earned him the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and eligibility for Life Membership in the VFW; after being deemed ineligible for 42 years. It was with great pleasure and honor to successfully assist Vic and pin the Expeditionary Medal on my former F/Sgt and Sailor "Bud."
"Fair Winds and Following Seas", my good friend. RIP
