Obituary of Robert Edward Neske

EAST DURHAM – Robert E. Neske, 79, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Stratton VA Medical Center. He was born in Brooklyn on June 8, 1938, the youngest of six children of the late John and Hilda Duerr Neske. Mr. Neske was drafted into the U.S. Army at age 23. Following honorable discharge, he moved to East Durham with his family. He met Ilse Hansen and they married in 1965. Mr. Neske worked in construction for a few years, and then was employed as a cabinet maker at K & B in Freehold for 34 years, retiring in 2003. Mr. Neske enjoyed raising homing pigeons, and was a member of the Northern Catskills Homing Pigeon Club. Survivors include his wife, Ilse Hansen Neske; two daughters, Lisa Neske and Heidi (Eric) Baeckmann; two granddaughters, Savannah and Courtney; remaining siblings, Dorothea Webb and George Neske; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 24th from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, October 25th at 12 noon at St. Patrick's Cemetery, North Jefferson Avenue, Catskill. Condolences may be expressed at ajcunninghamfh.com.
