Obituary of Russell C. Germond

CONESVILLE – Russell C. "Rusty" Germond, 84, passed away quietly on Thursday, August 31, 2017 in his residence. Born in Burlington, VT on June 27, 1933, he was son of the late Chester and Beulah Dodds Germond. Rusty's parents moved the family to Conesville when he was a young boy, and he has resided in Conesville since. He was a graduate of Gilboa-Conesville Central School, class of 1952. Rusty married Shirley Ann Utter on September 26, 1954 and they were together until Shirley predeceased him in 2013. Rusty was a farmer all his life. He and Shirley owned and operated a dairy farm for more than 20 years. Rusty continued his farm life, raising beef cattle and working with horses. Rusty also drove a school bus for Gilboa-Conesville Central School from 1988 until he retired in 2000. He enjoyed square dancing, snowmobiling, haying, driving and fixing tractors, and caring for his animals. Rusty loved his grandchildren and was a good provider for his family, right to the end. Rusty is survived by his children, Denise K. Penoyer (Jack Kinney), and Barry Russell Germond; grandchildren, Tyler Russell Germond and Lyndsea Hart; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Rusty was predeceased by his brother, Ira "Roger" Germond, and sister, Doris Fancher. Calling hours will be Monday, September 4th, from 2 until 4 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Tuesday, September 5th, at 11 a.m. at the Conesville United Methodist Church, 1295 State Route 990V, Conesville, with Rev. Dot Morris officiating, followed by burial in Manorkill Rural Cemetery. Flowers are welcome, or a donation to the Conesville Volunteer Fire Company will also be appreciated.
