Obituary of Eugene Jennings

OAK HILL - John Eugene Jennings (Gene) passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. Gene was born in East Durham on June 12, 1935 to Clarence and Bertha (Ingalls) Jennings. He graduated from Greenville Central School in 1954 and worked the farm for a few years but then decided that this was not what he wanted to do. He drove truck most of his adult life and lived in Greene County most of his life. In 1997, he retired from Ryder Systems after 30 years and continued to drive dump trucks (once a trucker always a trucker). Gene was a volunteer fireman with 50 years in the East Durham Volunteer Fire Company (where he held several offices) and then he had many years of service in the Oak Hill-Durham Volunteer Fire Company. He was a member of the Greene County Volunteer Firemen's Association having served as President and Treasurer, a member of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association also. He loved his RV life style and has traveled throughout the United States and Canada. Gene worked hard but played harder. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy (Youmans); his children, April, Randy, Guy and Mitzi-Su (Charles) Fremgen, a sister, Edna Elliott, and many nieces and nephews; his stepchildren - Arlene, Alan, Gerry Jr. and Glenn Beechert and several grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren Gene was predeceased by brothers Edgar and George, and sisters, Margaret Park and Frances Partridge and grandson Brandon Beechert. Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 30th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, with firematic services at 7 p.m. The funeral will be Thursday, August 31st, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Oak Hill-Durham Volunteer Fire Company, 103 County Route 22, Oak Hill, NY 12460; East Durham Volunteer Fire Company, P.O.
