Obituary of Dorothy J. Hood

EARLTON – Dorothy J. Rowbottom Hood, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 3, 2017 in Ormond Beach, Florida, where she wintered for several years. Born in Queens on March 14, 1930, she was daughter of the late Victor and Carrie Ague Rowbottom. At age 14, Dorothy's family came to Earlton where they operated a seasonal boarding house. The family spent winters in Albany where Dorothy was educated. She married her beloved husband, George H. Hood when she was 19 years old. Dorothy was a dedicated homemaker who raised her sons and provided support to her husband, so that he could work and be active in the community. She was the one who kept the family going. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Gary (Libbie) Hood and Randy Hood, C.P.A.; grand-daughter, Andrea Hood, Esq. and her children, Liam and Lane Hood; grand-daughter, Dr. Gwen (Mark) Hood-Patterson, and daughters Grace and Mabel; grandson, Jonathan (Tiffany) Stone, and their daughter Kaelyn; nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband George on July 1, 2015; her brother, Richard Rowbottom; and grandson, Christopher Stone. Dorothy's yellow Labrador and faithful companion, Katie, is waiting for her on the other side of the bridge. Calling hours will be Thursday, August 10th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Friday, August 11th at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore.
