Obituary of Gary W. Smith

GREENVILLE - Gary "Critter" Smith, 56, passed away on July 17, 2017 of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease). Gary was born in Catskill to the late John and Gertrude Smith on May 17, 1961. He was a true outdoorsman in every sense of the word; he loved nothing more than gardening, hunting, and fishing. He also loved spending time at the family camp at Silver Lake in the Adirondacks. Gary lived life to the fullest and those who knew him will remember him as the life of the party. He will be greatly missed. Gary is survived by his beloved three children, Corinne, Lydia, and Adam Smith of Greenville; his eight brothers and sisters, Sandra Burns (Michael) of Lansdale, PA, Judith Jensen (Johnathan) of Longmont, CO, Hazel McGlynn (Bradley) of Queens, John Smith (Marcy) of Catskill, Dorothy Atkinson (Timmy) of Saranac, Jamie Wilms (Harry) of Palenville, Mark Smith (Tracy) of Palenville, and Matthew Smith (Laurie) of Kiskatom; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends. As were his wishes, Gary has been privately cremated. Calling hours will be held on Friday July 21, 2017 from 6 to 8pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville.
