Obituary of Mary J. Guinan

GREENVILLE – Mary J. Guinan, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 12, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 15, 1924 in NYC to the late Michael and Mary O'Sullivan. After she graduated with Master's Degree from NYU, she worked as a teacher and then as a principal for PS-91 in the Bronx. She came to Greenville part time from 1974 until 1988, when she lived here full time. Mary was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church and was a member of the Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 291 Ladies Auxiliary. She used to visit nursing homes and tend to the sick and elderly. Mary was very involved with the church and her community, and enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved husband, William J. Guinan; and her daughter, Rosemary Melendez. Mary is survived by her children, William M. (Melissa) Guinan and Donnamarie (Bernard) Maguire; her grandchildren, Ciara Rose, Hadley Jo, Brielle Keyley, Jennifer, Jacqueline, Nicole, and Christopher; and her great-grandchildren, Anthony, Rosemary, ElleMia, Jackson, Landon, Stella Grace, and Alana Desiree Rose. Calling hours will be held on Sunday July 16, 2017 from 2 to 5pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday July 17th at 11am at St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville, followed by burial in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie, NY.
