Obituary of Joan M. Bennett

OAK HILL – Joan Marie Bennett, 73, died suddenly on Sunday May 28, 2017 at St. Peter's Hospital with her loving husband at her side. She was born on May 26, 1944 in Middleburgh to the late Lewis and Etta Cole Munoz, and then adopted at birth by her late aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and Clayton Barkman. She was a member of the Norton Hill Wildlife Club, representative to the Fish and Wildlife Management Board, and member of the NYS Conservation Council. In Greene County, she was also a Charter Member of the Town of Durham Ambulance Squad, and a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts. She received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NYS Conservation Council, and an Appreciation Award from the NYS Conservation Police for her efforts and dedication and support for NYS Environmental Conservation Police. She was also a member of the Greene County Federation of Sportsmen and received an award for dedicated service. In addition to her parents and adopted parents, Joan is predeceased by many brothers and sisters. Joan is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Walter W. Bennett, Jr.; their children, Douglas W. (Renee Serbu) Bennett, Robin (Bruce) Terrell, Roger C. (Lori) Bennett, and Tracy (William Palmer) Bennett; their 8 grandchildren; their 8 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Henry "Hank" Munzo, Irving "Ike" Munzo, and her twin, John Munzo; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday June 1, 2017 from 3 to 6pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, with a funeral service at 5pm. Joan will then be privately cremated and burial of her ashes will take place on Saturday June 10th at 11am at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
