Obituary of Ruth A. Wood

Ruth A. Wood OAK HILL – Ruth A. Bevins Wood, 70, passed away peacefully Monday morning, April 3, 2017 at her residence, after a long illness. Born in Gilboa on November 22, 1946, she was daughter of the late Harry and Jessie Babcock Bevins. Ruth was a kitchen aide at Cairo Elementary School for more than 30 years before her retirement. She was a charter member of the Town of Durham Volunteer Ambulance and was active for many years. Ruth was a Girl Scout leader and Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts when her children were young. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Oak Hill-Durham Volunteer Fire Company, and a Past President of Greene County Ladies Auxiliary. Ruth was a past treasurer of the Oak Hill Cemetery Association. She was a loving person that would take in any stray, human or animal. Ruth is survived by her husband of 52 years, best friend, and life partner, Walter L. Wood; four children, Albert Wood, Gary Wood (Deborah Hulbert), Jeffery Wood (Doreen Rooney), and Holly Wood (Hans Hoelzli); eight grandchildren, Alicia Wood, Kaylei Wood, Albert Wood Jr., Shannon Wood (Damian Markle), Skyler Wood, Shelby Wood, David Peck, and Evangeline Peck; two great-grandchildren, Lewis Wood and Nathan Markle; two sisters, Lila Mudge and Sue Floyd; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by four siblings, Gene Bevins, Harry Bevins, Linda Bevins, and Betty Millett. Ruth has been cremated privately. Calling hours will be Saturday, April 8th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. with Rev.
