Obituary of Bruno S. Dobies, Jr.

DURHAM – Bruno Dobies, Jr., 60, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Queens on January 2, 1957, he was son of the late Bruno Dobies, Sr., and Rose Mangiaracina Dobies. As a child, Bruno spent summers in Durham with his parents, while their business, Rose Motel, was under construction. The family moved permanently to Durham, and Bruno graduated from Greenville Central School, class of 1975. He and his wife, Mary McCabe Dobies, were married on June 16, 1984, and took over operation of the motel from his parents at that time. Bruno also worked at the former Schubert Satellite Services in Cairo, the former Stiefel Labs (now GSK) in Durham, Ski Windham, and Home Depot. He enjoyed snowmobiling, woodworking, Beatles music, and a good movie. Bruno's family includes his wife of 32 years, Mary; their children, Jennifer Dobies and her fiancée, Ariel Scirico; and Joseph Dobies, his girlfriend, Jennifer Borucinski, and their son, Riley Joseph Dobies; a close cousin, Joanne Serra and her husband, Tony. He will be missed by a close circle of friends. Calling hours will be Thursday, February 9, from 1 to 5 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, with a brief service during the calling hours. Spring burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
