Obituary of Joanna Ventola

CORNWALLVILLE – Joanna "Jenny" Ventola, 89, passed away Tuesday morning, November 22, 2016 at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in New York City on May 1, 1927, she was daughter of the late Umberto and Emilia Monteverdi Nusca, and wife of the late Anthony Ventola, who passed away February 17, 2013. Mrs. Ventola and her siblings were raised in East Harlem at 102nd Street and 2nd Avenue. After marriage, she and her husband moved to Bethpage, Long Island, where they resided for many years, before moving to Cornwallville in 1986. Mrs. Ventola was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Cairo. She is survived by her children, Tony (Phyllis) Ventola, and Gia Ventola; three grandchildren, Christina (Erik) Petersen, Gianna Hutchins, and Mathew Hutchins; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ventola was predeceased by all of her siblings, Santina Micheli, Allesandro Nusca, Ida Cance, and Anna Squillante. Calling hours will be Friday, November 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, November 26, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 35 Church Street, Cairo, followed by burial in Cornwallville Cemetery.
