Obituary of Agnes P. Killilea

DURHAM – Agnes P. Killilea, 77, passed away suddenly at her residence on Thursday, November 17, 2016. Born on March 12, 1939 in Birmingham, England, she was raised in County Sligo, Ireland, daughter of the late Stephen and Elizabeth O'Donnell Gallagher. Agnes came to the United States in 1960. She lived in New York City until she married and moved to Long Island to raise her sons. Agnes was employed as a nurse at Kings Park Psychiatric Center on Long Island. She also was certified in drug and alcohol counseling. Agnes came to Greenville in 2004. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville and Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham. Agnes was a member of the Greenville Irish-American Club, and Ladies Auxiliary of Knights of Columbus Council 6439. Agnes is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Shane (Liz) Killilea and Kieran (Maggie) Killilea; seven grandchildren, Meave, Lily, Saoirse, Fallon, Aisling, Aidan, and John; six siblings, Seamus Gallagher, Peggy Hickey, Liam Gallagher, Benedict Gallagher, Carmel Guilfoyle, and Peter Gallagher; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Agnes was predeceased by a brother, Brendan Gallagher. Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Ladies Knights of Columbus service will be at 7:30 p.m., and Greenville Irish-American Club service at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, November 23, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Knock Shrine, 2052 State Route 145, East Durham, followed by burial in Greenville Cemetery.
