Obituary of Winifred J. Hewins

ALCOVE – Winifred J. Hewins, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 14, 2016. She was born on March 14, 1924 in Albany to the late George and Nellie Travis Beck. She was a life long resident of Alcove. She worked for 25 years at the Frangella Mushroom Factory, then worked at their cannery, and then at the Levy's Dress Factory in Ravena. She also worked as a full time grandmother. Winny was a member of the Coeymans Hollow Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Coeymans Hollow. She loved cooking, going on trips to Maine, the beach, and most of all taking care of her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Winny is predeceased by her husband, Herbert W. Hewins on October 23, 2015; her son, Dale Beck; and her siblings, Dorothy Ottaviano and Joseph (Alma) Beck. Winny is survived by her sons, Robert (Hope) Beck and Kenneth (Caroline) Beck Sr.; her grandchildren, Laura (Robert) Haley, Kenneth (Erika) Beck Jr., Edward (Kim) Beck, Elizabeth Beck, and Jeremiah Beck; seven great-granchildren; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Beck; brother-in-law, Jeremiah Ottaviano; and many nieces and nephews. At Winny's request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in Winny's name to the Senior Projects of Ravena, 9 Bruno Blvd, Ravena, NY 12143.
