Obituary of Clifford D. Butler
Clifford "Cliff" Butler, 82 years, of Greenville, NY (formerly of Coxsackie, NY) passed away at his home with his family by his side, on Friday, Jul. 9,2010. He was born in New Baltimore, NY on Apr. 19, 1928, son of the late Bert and Mae (Adriance) Butler. Cliff served his country in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War, in a construction battalion building bridges in Korea. He was employed by the NYS Thruway Authority for 30+ years. He was one of the first men hired and began working before the first toll road in New York even opened. He was a Heavy Equipment Operator and worked his way up to Foreman and Supervisor over the Catskill Section of the thruway until his retirement. Cliff was a 50 year + member of the Coxsackie American Legion Post #166, Ark Lodge #48 F&AM and Coxsackie Hose Co. #3. He lived most of his adult life in Coxsackie with his wife of 49 years, Phyllis (Cameron) Butler, who predeceased him in 1998. He married Irene (Clow) Blenis-Butler, a lifelong friend of the family, and he moved back to Greenville where they had nine happy years together, she predeceased him in 2008. Cliff, although the youngest of Bert and Mae's children, became the "Rock of the Family" always there to help anyone in need. He will be remembered by all of his family and friends as a man of his word, a loving husband, son, brother and cherished uncle and great uncle as well as a dear and loyal friend. Besides his parents and both wives, Cliff was predeceased by his two sisters and their husbands, Clare and Paul Cameron and Peggy and Al Bressler, his brother, Philip A. Butler, Sr., two nephews, John Cameron (killed in action in Viet Nam) and Peter Cameron and a niece, Paula Feth. Cliff is survived by his sister, Janet (Butler) Hisert of Florida, a niece, Jacqueline Erickson, nephew, Philip Butler, Jr. (Audrey) of Greenville, a nephew, Richard Cameron (Marilee) of Georgia, a great nephew, Philip Butler, III and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, Jul. 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 SR 81, Greenville, NY 12083. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
