Obituary of Kay Lorraine Ashley

EAST DURHAM – Kay L. Ashley, 81, passed away on Wednesday March 2, 2016 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, peacefully, and surrounded by family. Kay was born on September 3, 1934 in West Milford, NJ to the late Carl and Lena Davis Baker. She was raised in New Jersey and in July of 1969, she moved to East Durham. She worked at Chimes Market in Norton Hill, and then worked as a bank teller at the National Bank of Coxsackie in Greenville. Kay was very active in the Durham-Oak Hill United Methodist Church, where she was the Treasurer for over thirty years, and was a member of the Christian Women's Club. She enjoyed gardening, mowing the lawn, tending to her flowers, feeding the birds, baking, and talking about all her grandchildren. She loved all sports, football, baseball and especially NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Donald Ashley; her son, Kenneth Ashley; and her siblings, Richard Baker and Madelyn Sparling. Kay is survived by her children, Kevin (Rachael) Ashley and Karen (Stephen) Tirpak; her grandchildren, Justin, Keith, and Brittany Ashley, and Kayla and Kelly Tirpak; her sisters, Carole Seabert and Helen Kuchman; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A celebration of Kay's life will be held on Sunday March 13, 2016 at 10:45am the Durham-Oak Hill United Methodist Church, 552 Route 22, Durham, NY. She has been privately cremated.
