May this candle symbolize the light that Dave brought into our world...a light that he could to share and pass on to us. By honoring his life, may we each do our part to keep his candle burning brightly.

We share in the loss of Dave who gave so much of himself to others. He was a true Country Gentleman in the way he carried himself and had a smile that could light up a darken room. He gentle ways could make even the most stubborn person open up to a different way of thinking or acting. He was a true treasure to all who were fortunate enough to be in his presence for any length of time and his strong faith in God carried him through the most difficult journey with the same dignity and positive outlook that he displayed though out his life.
On a personal note, he has touched us deeply in the time we have known him and his presence on this earth, and in our own lives, will be deeply missed. Well done, thy good and faithful servant. Rest in peace, until we meet again....Fondly, Karen & Kevin

To my special Uncle David, Aunt Pat and family, our family,
I want to share some of my thoughts at this time. As you, my relatives, know, Uncle David is really my second cousin by marriage, since my "Aunt Pat" is my mom's cousin, but since as kids, we were taught to call those close adult relatives "aunt" or "uncle" out of Respect, I guess it's stuck.
I think, with good reason.
I have so many incredibly fond memories of spending summers in Oak Hill and "the country", where all of you lived. Joey, Sharon, Julie, Dougy and I revelled in having so many "cousins" to play with -- the Cochranes and the Elsbrees -- kids galore! When at your place, I'd usually look to hang out with Christiane or Kenny (we thought we were so grown up!) and try to escape the swarm of younger ones. But I know that together we all created the havoc that kids in large numbers can guarantee. In all those years of summer kid-chaos, I can not remember even one time, ever, hearing my Uncle David utter a harsh word. He and you, Aunt Pat, were like these patient, solid oaks that hosted hoards of noisy birds and provided a safe place to grow, have fun, explore and learn how to care for one another and the world. Despite the preoccupations children and later, teenagers, have, this was not lost on me. I knew these adults were good people -- with unfathomable reserves of patience, strength and kindness. My Uncle David was a model of how to handle tough times with grace and humor.
As an adult, raising my own children, I got caught up with my career and the large Greek family into which I married. I'm sorry to admit that I lost track of much of what was going on with my now-grown country playmates. For so many years, what I knew of your lives was mostly from the wonderful Christmas newsletter, you, my dear Aunt Pat, somehow found the time to write and circulate.
But recently, during the last months of Uncle David's life here on earth, I got to spend some precious time with the man, who, in my childhood eyes, was such a symbol of fatherness. Being in your home, as you surrounded him with love, laughter and caring, has been a gift. Being with Uncle David at this time was like seeing an inner light grow stronger as a bodily one dimmed. I have never witnessed such acceptance, faith, gratitude and grace. What a very special gift from a second cousin by marriage.
Thank you, "Uncle" David Elsbree, for this treasure. Thank you, Aunt Pat, Chris, Kenny, Jeff, Andrew, Wayne and Steven, your significant others and all of your family and friends, for loving him, and one another, the way you do.
We send our love to you all; wishing you peace,
and the comfort of treasured memories,
Debbie and Nick

We will all truly miss Dave, he touched so many of our lives. I have known Dave for over 35 years (as a friend, church member, and as a boss) and I will always remember him for his kind, gentle, and caring spirit. He always put others before himself and he was the definition of a true gentleman. He was not only a good friend to my parents, but also to Frank and I and our children, especially after losing my father thirteen years ago. Our Lord will give you the strength and peace to endure, and joy in knowing that you will see Dave again. The church's love and support will always be here for you.
