Michael, Martin, John, and Thomas,
I was so sorry to hear about your father's passing. It's never easy to lose a parent. I enjoyed my chats with him about Art, and I still own two of his etchings that I bought. As we approach the anniversary of his passing one year ago, I will take a moment to reflect on his life as a family man and as an artist in the Hudson Valley. Much love,
JJ

Steve loved this picture and I have always loved the look of complete disinterest in his face here. Wonderful of Mike, Julie and Steve and Grandma. Again, in the Bronx.

Mike, Steve & Julie in the Bronx. Lovely to see them like this, just kids being kids.

Genuine Brophy laughter. A moment I will cherish forever from my wedding. Loved having all the Brophy's at our wedding, especially Uncle Steve, it made the night perfect.

Our family, years ago, but still rare to get all of us. It was a great day with lots of love to be given and to be shared.

Michael Storms
In our early years (the '40s and '50s), my cousin Stephen, his sister Julie and I were brought up in the same household in the Bronx, and I always thought of him as my younger brother. We shared all the trials and tribulations, the joys, adventures and disappointments of little kids, pre-teeners and into our early teen years. Because I was older, I was occasionally his protector on our rough streets, but more often, I think, I was his instigator and his tormentor.
Family circumstances, then academics, military and adult pressures and pursuits took us on to different paths, but we always, until his passing, felt a kinship and an interest in each other's personal voyages. I was, early on, amazed and captivated by Stephen's wonderful artwork, and by his fine and auspicious woodworking. We collaborated in recent years on some construction projects.
Stephen was, by report, sometimes prickly, argumentative and even confrontational. He was, when I was with him, brilliant, engaging, and always a good friend.. He loved and was justifiably proud of his family.
I can speak only for myself, but I loved him and will miss him greatly. May he rest in peace and when he reaches heaven may he point out to our Leader some of the flaws in our human condition which need some Divine help.

Hard to select from all the beautiful prints, but I thought this was particularly moving.

Our condolences to the Brophy Family. We remember seeing Stephen often with his sons at dinner in Norton Hill. We loved his work hanging at Green Hill. His work will remain as a reminder of his great talent. You remain in our thoughts and prayers.
