Obituary of Patrick Gaughan

GREENVILLE – Patrick "Pat" Gaughan, 88, passed away Saturday morning, August 8, 2015 in The Pines at Catskill. Born in Glenedagh, Ballycastle, County Mayo, Ireland, he was son of the late James and Mary McDonnall Gaughan. Pat came to America in 1948 at age 21. He worked as an elevator operator and doorman in hotels, before a career of 39 years as a meter inspector for Con Edison, from where he retired. Pat and his family were residents of Pelham Bay in the Bronx for 39 years, moving to Greenville in 2002. Pat was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Greenville. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working around the house. Pat had a mechanical sense and enjoyed fixing things. His work and his children were very important to him. Pat is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bridget Gilmore Gaughan; his children, John (Joanne), Marie (Ray) Medlar, and Gerry (Anne); 15 grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Julie Whelan and Peggy Gilligan; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Pat was predeceased by his son, James; and all of his siblings, Mary Kate, Anthony, John and Thomas. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 4987 State Route 81, Greenville, followed by burial in Greenville Cemetery.
