Obituary of Emilylou D. Tyrrell

GREENVILLE – Emilylou Doerhoefer Tyrrell, 89, passed away early Sunday, July 12, 2015 in the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in New York City on May 6, 1926, she was daughter of the late Herman and Margaret Scholl Doerhoefer. Em was a graduate of Berkeley College in White Plains, majoring in General Business/Secretarial. She was employed as secretary to the Secretary/Treasurer of International Mining Company in New York City from 1945 to 1949. Following a hiatus to raise her children, she returned to the workforce as secretary at Donald Mabee Insurance from 1963 to 1970. Em then served as secretary to Milton Chadderdon, Esq., in the Law Office of Bagley, Chadderdon, Pulver & Stiefel in Catskill from 1970-1974. She concluded her career as secretary for 18 ½ years at Catskill Savings Bank, retiring August 1, 1996 at age 70. Em served as organist for the Greenville and Norton Hill United Methodist Churches for 12 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Greenville & Norton Hill, and UMW, and was formerly a member of the Greenville Rescue Squad and a Hospice volunteer. Em enjoyed gardening, cooking, and flower arranging. Em is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert J. "Bob" Tyrrell; three sons, Jeffrey (Debbie), Jim, and Ken (Polly); grandchildren, Bonnie (Dennis), Olivia, Christopher (Hillary), Mike (Krysten), Kelly, Mandee and Kevin; great-grandchildren, Bryan (Linda and son Joshua), Gage, Shelby, Abigaile, Hunter, Andrew, Tyler, Juliana, Logan and Eisele; nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Em was predeceased by her sister, Anna Marie Schmidt. Calling hours will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Greenville & Norton Hill, 5830 State Route 81, Greenville, followed by burial in Greenville Cemetery.
