Obituary of Leonard J. DiSalvo

Leonard DiSalvo, 82, of Greenville, NY, passed away at his home on April 22, 2015. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on December 21, 1932, to the late Andrew and Mary DiSalvo. He is also predeceased by his sister Christine DelConte, brother Jerome DiSalvo and his wife Antoinette, nephew Vincent Benfante and niece Mary Saulle. Leonard is survived by his wife Emily of 55 years, his children, Patricia Vaughn and her husband Roger, Mary Chadurjian and her husband Randy, and Andrew DiSalvo, his grandchildren, Susan Kolodziejski and her husband Jason, Karen and Kathleen Gardiner, Cortney and Chelsea Chadurjian, and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Frances Benfante and her husband Umberto, Mary Gray and her husband Jack, Carlo DiSalvo and his wife Anna, as well as many nieces and nephews. Leonard was a tailor by trade and worked with his father-in-law at Patti Ann Fashions for 10 years. He served in the US Army for 2 years during the Korean War. After he moved to Greene County in 1970, he ran All Season's Motel in South Cairo for many years, with his wife. He simultaneously worked for the Cairo-Durham School District as a bus driver for 28 years, and was also a custodian for Greene County and the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cairo. Leonard was a loving and hardworking husband and father, who put taking care of his family and his faith above all else. He loved having his own vegetable garden, fishing, model trains and bingo. He especially loved camping with his wife and gathering with his friends around a campfire to laugh and share stories. You could always count on him to play a game of Rummikub or Mexican Train, if you asked. He was a member of the American Legion Post #291 and Greenville Golden Years. He was also a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church of Cairo, and most recently of St. John the Baptist Church of Greenville, as well as being a member of the Rosary Alter Society. A short viewing will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, in Greenville, NY, on Wednesday, April 29th, at 10:00am, followed by a ceremony given by The American Legion Post #291 at 10:45am, and concluding with a mass at 11am.
