I want to extend my condolences to ALL of Coach Macs family.
My name is Rob Mangold (Robbie)and I am a 1975 graduate of Greenville HS.
Coach was somebody I looked up to as much as my Dad.
I spent a lot of time with Coach, since I played soccer, baseball and basketball for all 4 years.
Coach was a role model and well respected by all who knew him and even those who just heard of him (The Legend).
I will be forever be grateful to Coach for what I learned from him and most importantly for him taking me from a young kid and making me into a young man.

Coach MacTavish didn't win every game he ever coached, he won something much bigger--the respect of everyone who ever played for him, against him or even knew him. Our condolences. Class of 1964. Undefeated in the Greene County League in both soccer and basketball (15 wins, 3 losses).

I always had great respect and admiration for Coach. He was extremely competitive - - if the basketball team lost on the road, he would really get in your face if you laughed on the team bus on the way home! But he was also fair and kind, and he wanted not only to win, but to win the right way. I really liked him, and I wish there were more people like Coach in the world.
My deepest sympathies to Coach's family.

Bruce, Megan, Keith, Ross and families,
We're so sorry for your loss and that of the community. Your Dad touched many of us in many ways as teacher, coach, citizen and friend. His memory will be cherished by his students, friends and family. Your Dad never expected more from someone than he, himself would be able to give. Our family had the privilege of his friendship and that of your Mom over many years. May God's love and blessings be yours at this time. Take care and love to you and your families.

Coach MacTavish was one of the nicest men I have ever met. He was so loved and admired for his ability to lead, and beneath that "gruff" exterior, was a heart of gold. He lives on in my memories of him, in our discussions about his favorite place....Maine! R.I.P. with Amy, Mac! We love you both!

Dear Bruce, Megan, Keith, Ross and families - I don't think that anyone who ever knew your Dad can say "Coach" without thinking "Mac." He always knew the proper thing to do or say... though he loved to mangle the names of some opponent schools ("Ichabog" comes to mind) looking tremendously serious except for the twinkle in his eye. He was a great teacher, a just man (extremely rare these days), and a good colleague. Bob D'Ag.

I have many fine memories of the mid-sixties' years as a teenager when Coach Mac was my PE Teacher and Coach. I was far from one of his better athletes, but he was always encouraging, positive, and supportive of my participation.
He became an important role model of mine for life. He was firm but fair; serious enough when needed to let you know he meant it, but still light enough to ease a situation.
Definitely a unique character - - he could keep a class of kids laughing in school; and a gathering of adults in stitches with his wit.
My condolences to his entire family - - he will be missed.
Flip Flach - - GCS class of 1966
