J. Doris Organ Obituary

QUEENSBURY – J. Doris Organ, age 93, formerly of South Westerlo, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Glens Falls Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Brooklyn on March 19, 1921, she was daughter of the late Leo and Anna Maher Chambers. She was employed at Wright Bros. Aircraft in New Jersey during World War II, and served for many years as a school crossing guard in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The family moved to Greenville in 1963. Doris worked as a cook at Baumann's Brookside for more than 20 years. She was a former member of the Westerlo Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and formerly served as a catechist at St. John the Baptist Church. Doris was a communicant of St. Mary's/Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham. She enjoyed going to garage and yard sales, reading, cooking, and baking her signature Irish soda bread.


Doris is survived by her children, John G. (Maureen) Organ Jr., Kathleen (Scott) Walling, and Robert (Sharon) Organ; six grandchildren, Heather (Matthew) Doty, Kate (Carlos) Aguiar, Meagan (Christopher Quay) Walling, Emily Walling, Sean (Jessica Weimer-Organ) Organ, and Colleen (Paul) Guse; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband, John G. Organ on October 10, 1985, and her siblings, Leo Chambers, Margaret Conlon, Anne Eckoff, Adele Nowak and Catherine Hynes.


Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Knock Shrine, 2052 State Route 145, East Durham, followed by burial in Greenville Cemetery.
