Obituary of Alice Bjornsson
Alice Bjornsson, 97, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed into eternal rest on Tuesday morning, September 16, 2014, at Good Samaritan in Delmar, New York.
Alice was born in Fulton New York on January 31st, 1917 and was the daughter of the late Michael and Pauline Cherniak and the devoted wife of the late Thordur Bjornsson.
In her younger years, Alice was a hairdresser in NYC but after marriage she dedicated her time to her family. She not only raised her three children, Haldora, Kristine and Kresten but she also took care of her grandchildren, Allison and Eric. She was the ultimate "giver", always putting others needs ahead of her own.
Alice loved being outdoors and was always active. She strived to live a healthy, honest, simple life. She was a talented artist who had an appreciation for all things beautiful, especially her gardens. She also enjoyed going to work. Alice was a real estate agent for many years and later in life, she was a dedicated employee at Sunny Hill Farm/Resort where she worked as a chambermaid.
Alice is survived by her children Haldora and Kresten Bjornsson, grandchildren Allison Provenzano-Mackie and husband John, Eric Menendez and wife Heather, Kristine Biancone and husband Anthony, Bill Repko and wife Lydia and her great grandchildren, Alyssa, Abigail, Michael, Sammy, and Liam, and her sister Jennie O'Hare, cousins and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Thordur Bjornsson, beloved daughter Kristine Provenzano, sisters Ann Dwyer, Mary Ward, Emma Kucyk and brothers John and Nicholas Cherniak.
Calling hours will be from 1pm-3pm on Sunday, September 28th, 2014 at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home in Greenville NY. A memorial service with Deacon Peter Sedlmeir and burial of ashes will be held immediately following.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the entire staff at Good Samaritan for the loving care given to Alice and to the aides and friends who helped care for her while she resided with Allison and John Mackie.
