Pete, and the Woodruff family, were part of my roots. I grew up on our dairy farm, on Boomhower Road, a couple of miles from the Woodruff Store. As young kids, we got the "Big Bus" at the Store, when his father was the bus driver. Pete's uncle, Clarence, would pick us up at home and deliver us to meet the bus at the Store. We often played ball in the back pasture, before the bus came; I have memories of dealing with the electric fence back there. I also remember Pete when he was a ball player on the GCS baseball team. I'm saddened to hear of his untimely passing; he will be remembered fondly.
