Obituary of Ronald Furman

WESTERLO – Ronald "Ronnie" Furman, 81, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at his residence, under Hospice care, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness. Born in Albany on February 20, 1933, he was son of the late Stanley and Dorothy Lockwood Furman. Ronnie was a lifelong resident of Westerlo. He owned Furman's Garage & Body Shop in Westerlo for more than 40 years. Ronnie loved NASCAR and local dirt-track racing. Ronnie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joan Plotkin Furman; children, Stephen Furman of Westerlo, Gorden (Robin) Furman of Gallupville, Tammy (Greg) Stemple of Berne, Shelly Young of Rotterdam, Lisa Ferguson of Clarksville and Bill Ferguson of Westerlo, Darren (Jennifer) Furman of Feura Bush; brother, Gerald (Nina) Furman of Voorheesville; also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially his granddaughter Brianna, who held a special place in his heart; and his faithful dog, Jack. He was predeceased by his brothers, Roger (late Carol) and Ralph (wife, Janet survives). Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service on Saturday, June 7 at 1 p.m. in Westerlo Rural Cemetery, State Route 143, Westerlo. There are no calling hours.
