Remembering Gene as a great friend. My Dad would call and ask Gene to come over and visit. Our family was great friends of Gene and Dot. A year ago I talked with Gene at the eye Dr. office. We had a nice visit. Gene helped Dad and Walt butcher many times, any personal problems Gene always helped and would stop in to check how everything was going. Gene and Dot come over to the saphouse for pancakes. Gene was concerned as to how everything was going on the farm and enjoyed Dad's horses and enjoyed Mom's cooking.
Gene Kellam has been a part of my life as long as I can remember....riding the school bus with Ruthy and many of those foster children; he was my mom's boss at the Albany County Soil and Water Conservation District, picking her up often for work; the trips Gene, Dot, my mom and dad often took and hearing their funny stories; watching him plant some of those trees on our land; but most of all I remember him as a kind and gentle man. We have lost another great community icon.
